More info
The Kasumi Masterpiece Paring Knife is perfect for cutting your small fruits and vegetables while preparing your favourite dishes. This Japanese knife has a remarkable cutting performance that allows you to perform smooth and precise cuts with great ease. Let's not ignore that besides its great performance, this paring knife is also a true piece of art with a delicate design like no other.
Such a great knife is the result of the expertise and talent of Japanese master cutlers. The Japanese know-how in the field of cutlery is highly respected and admired around the world. Indeed, this paring knife was made by hand Japanese craftsmen whose expertise dates back the old Samurai era when the katana was invented.
Below are the 5 steps followed by the Japanese craftsment who created this knife:
1- Forging of the blade: this is done by a craftsman who is from the 25th generation of a long line of Japanese blacksmiths
2- The first manual sharpening: carried out by a craftsman who has worked for more than 30 years as a master cutler
3- Second sharpening with water: performed by one of Japan’s most renowned craftsmen
4- Damascus effect: a very detailed step by a craftsman trained by his father, who was in turn a recognized specialist throughout Japan. He uses the technique called "halo" to realize this damask. The pattern is thus finer, which allows the blade's thread to be harder, hence sharper.
5- Creation of the handle: carried out by a craftsman with more than 40 years of experience in the field, and who is specialized in the creation of Masterpiece handles.
The steps recenlty mentioned are followed to manufacture each and every single knife from the Kasumi Masterpiece series. It is the time and the care taken into each step what makes these knives a true representation of Japanese traditional quality. It might be hard to believe due to the impressive quality of Kasumi Masterpiece knives, but each of the 5 steps mentioned above is carried out by hand !
Besides the expertise of the craftsmen, it is also important to mention that the materials that were used are of great quality, too. For example, the blade has a VG10 steel core with 1% of carbon content that explains why the knife is so strong and robust. Furthermore, the handle is made of micarta, which is a composite material which is very resistant to moisture and heat. It is made from fabric and resin compressed under high pressure.
Finally, it must be said that to preserve the beauty and quality of such incredible kitchen knives, you need to be aware of certain tips. For instance, these knives should always be washed by hand and dried immediately after use. Putting them in the dishwasher or leaving them in contact with water for long time is not good. In addition, make sure to sharpen the blades (whenever they need it) using only whetstones with fine grains. Any other sharpening accessory could actually damage the blade's edge.
