More info

For sharpening all your steel kitchen knives, you have several options such as electric sharpeners, sharpening steels, and manual sharpeners. However, one of the easiest and most effective ways to sharpen your knives is by using a whetstone.

For example, the TOJIRO Combination Whetstone grit 1000/3000 is the perfect tool to maintain all your steel kitchen knives with a sharp edge at all times. The best part is that this is a double sided whetstone that has two different levels of grains that will enable you to get better sharpening results.

The two sides of this whetstone are the following:

- Grit 1000 (the darker part) has fine grain that provides extraordinary sharpness to your knives’ blades. It is ideal for the initial sharpening of a blade, but when dealing with blunt knives, it is necessary to use first other whetstones with coarse grain (lower grit value).

- Grit 3000 (the upper, lighter part) has ultra fine grain that is used for the final sharpening of the blade’s edge. This face should be used after you have already sharpened your knife with the grit 1000.

This whetstone is sold with its white base. It is made of plastic, and it has non-slip feet so that you can sharpen your knives with the security of knowing that your whetstone will not be sliding from one side to another.

To make sure that you get the best results out of using a whetstone, you must soak it in water for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then, while the sharpening process is taking place, you must make sure that the whetstone stays always slightly wet.
