Fan of Japanese cutlery? If yes, the Shizu Hamono utility knife is a perfect addition to your knife collection. If not, the Shizu Hamono utility knife will make you start loving Japanese cutlery. In any case, this knife is surely of great use in any kitchen as it is perfect for cutting fruits and vegetables.
The blade of this Japanese utility knife is made of 3 different steel layers. This type of blade consyruction is known as San Mai , and it is similar to a damascus blade but with fewer steel layers. The different steel layers can actually be seen on the blade's face in the wavy line that is close to the edge.
At the core of the blade, there is AUS8 steel with 14.5% of chromium 0.8% of carbon. The first enhances the blade's resistance to oxydation, whereas the second allows the blade to have a high level of rigidity (59 HRC in the Rockwell scale). In addition, to increase even more the blade's resistance to corrosion, the outermost layer of the blade is made of SUS1A-1 steel.
The handle is made of light laminated wood with veinings that are unique to each knife. The light colour of the handle matches perfectly with the steel of the blade. The handle has an oval, ambidextrous design with a polished surface that gives you a smooth feeling when in your hand. It is suitable for both right and left handed cooks.
Moreover, this knife comes in a wooden box with the Shizu Hamono logo engraved on its top surface. Forget about the traditional cardboard box in which most knives are sold, with this wooden box, this utility knife will surely dazzle whoever has the privilege of receiving it (even if that someone is yourself).
This and all the other Japanese kitchen knives from Shizu Hamono are the result of the perfect combination between the traditional Japanese know-how and modern technology. These knives meet high standards of quality, and they are perfect for cooks that are passionate about Japanese cuisine. All Shizu Hamono knives are made in Seki, Japan.
