With this Wusaki combination whestone, you can maintain the blades of your kitchen knives and keep them sharp at all times so that the preparation of your foods is always easy and efficient. Because as a cook there is no better feeling than using truly sharp knives, this whetstone wil surely become one of your most useful kitchen accessories!
This sharpening stone has two different faces with different levels of grains to allow you to get better results. You can always start by using the coarser side to do the initial sharpening, and then pass to the finer side to do the final sharpening. The grit of each side is described below:
- Grit 1000 (the red part): fine grains recommended for regular sharpening. It is the most used type of grit because the grains are not too abrasive or too fine. If you plan to use both sides of this stone to sharpen your knife, you should always start with this grit. If your knife has a fully dull or blunt blade, you should use another whetstone with lower grit (coarser grains).
- Grit 3000 (the white part): ultra fine grain ideal for the final sharpening of the blade’s edge. This face should be used after you have already sharpened the blade with the grit 1000. Because the grains are so fine, the blade gets a truly razor sharp edge that enables you to cut foods with great ease. This grit is ideal for blades that start to lose a bit of their sharpness but not so much to require more abrasive sharpening.
The total dimensions of this whetstone are the following: 18 x 6 x 3 centimeters. It is sold with a blac silicone stand where you can put the stone to guarantee a safer usage. Why safer? Because by putting the stone in the stand, the silicone creates a nonslip effect that keeps your whestone still when you pass the blades across the stone's surface.
To make sure that you get the best results out of using a whetstone, we recommend you to follow these simple steps:
- soak the stone in water about 15 minutes before usage.
- take out the stone of the water an place it on a flat, stable surface.
- place the superior half of the blade at 45° in relation to the stone's surface.
- apply a slight pressure with your index and midle finger over the blade and adjust the angle to between 10 and 15°.
- slide the blade back and forth and you'll see that fillings will start to come off the blade's edge. This is normal as that is what proves that the blade is being sharpened. Add a bit of water to keep the stone wet if necessary. To check if the blade has reached the desired sharpness, you can test the blade by cutting a sheet of paper.

It is my first sharpening stone and I am just getting into the thing. So far I could sharpen all of my knives quite OK. I bought it for the Wusaki Damas, but it is razor still, so no experience on that. I still have a lot to learn. |
