More info

The Shapton whetstones are a great option for sharpening your Japanese kitchen knives. Indeed, Shapton is a renowned Japanese brand that is known for the great efficiency and durability of its sharpening stones. With a Shapton whetstone in your kitchen, ther will be no excuse for having knives with blunt blades!

Unlike most traditional whetstones, this stone has a high content of ceramic, and thanks to that, there is no need to pre-soak in water before using it. You simply need to slightly humidify it, and then you can immediately start sharpening your knives. The ceramic is also known for giving fast results, thus this whetstone allows you to sharpen your knives in a faster way!

Another well-known characteristic of ceramic is its hardness. This means that your Shapton ceramic stone wears off at a slower rate when compared to a standard composite whetstone (assuming the same rate of usage). In other words, this stone will lasts longer, and to make sure it remains of great quality over time, we recommend you the following:

- Do not let it in water as this would make the stone more fragile.

- Do not let it rest under the sun, even when drying it, and do not use a hot dryer that could cause cracks on the stone's surface.

- Do not use the white side for sharpening your knives; you only need the pink part!

- After usage, you need to clean the stone with a humid cloth to remove the fillings that appeared as a result of the sharpening (do not use soap!). Finally, let it dry at room temperature.

This stone has fine grains 5000 that are perfect for honing the blades of your kitchen knives, especially the ones with a razor sharp edge. If you use a whetstone grit 1000 before, this stone is perfect for finishing and polishing the blade's edge. If the blade is dull or blunt, it is better to start with a whetstone with coarser grains.

With a thickness of only 5mm, this stone is perfect for domestic use, as a thicker would be more appropriate for professional environments. The white case in which the stone is sold is actually very functional. The superior surface can be used as a base or stand for placing the stone when using it. It has 4 non-slip feet that provide great stability, and the bottom surface is perforated, which is ideal for the drying of the stone.
