More info
TAIDEA is a brand specialized in the manufacturing of knife sharpeners and several other sharpening accessories. Their products have the purpose of restoring the sharpness of your steel kitchen knives so that they have a great cutting performance at all times.
For example, the Taidea Combination Whetstone grit 1000/3000 is the perfect sharpening accessory to maintain the razor sharp edge of your kitchen knives. This whetstone has two different levels of grains for achieving a more complete sharpening result. As a general rule, the higher is the number of the grit, the smaller and finer is the grain present in the whetstones and a thus a sharper ending result.
These are the two faces of this whetstone:
- Grit 1000 (the lower, yellow part) has fine grain that provides extraordinary sharpness to your knives’ blades. Here is where you’ll do the initial sharpening, but to sharpen blunt knives, a whetstone with lower grit would be needed.
- Grit 3000 (the upper, white part) has ultra fine grain that is used for the final sharpening of the blade’s edge. This face should be used after you have already sharpened your knife with the grit 3000.
The abrasive material used in this whetstone is high-grade corundum. This material has a level 9 of hardness in the Mohs scale, in which diamond takes the first place with a level 10.
This whetstone comes with its own base made of plastic. This base in black colour has non-slip feet so that you can sharpen your knives with the security of knowing that your whetstone will not be sliding from one side to another.
To get the best possible results from using a whetstone, it must first be soaked in water for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then, while the sharpening process is taking place, you must make sure that the whetstone stays always slightly wet.
